Question 6 What have you learnt about technologies from this process of constructing the product?

Question 7 Looking back at your preliminary task, what do you feel you have learnt in the progression from it to the full product?

As you can see above this was the preliminary task I did. Looking back now I can see a lot of mistakes I made during the filming. There are some breaks in continuity the most obvious break is when the student gets up from his chair to leave a you can see that when the angle changes the actor has moved place and has started walking again. I put this down to not trim the clip at the right times. I also use too many cross fades during the conversation which takes away from the "captivating" dialogue which definitely wasn't improvised. Another error is the execution of the 180 degree rule the main problem being I didn't go 180 degrees.

When I went on to doing the final production I was not expecting the length of time the filming and editing took to complete. I also wasn't expecting the sheer amount of shots we took that didn't make it in to the final cut. I do feel that the mistakes I made in the preliminary helped me to improve my vision of continuity when filming this is because I realized that even though I got a nice range of different angles and shots it didn't always work with the movement of the actors in the scene, as some placements of the camera obstructed the actor; in this case was when the actor goes to leave I have the camera set at the door which means the actor had to stop and go back to where they started mirroring what they did as close as they possibly which in Heinz sight could have been corrected with common sense. Also it taught me to film many different shots and angles for each clip otherwise you can end up with a terrible clip with no alternative. I am very confident in saying that comparing my preliminary task to my opening sequence there is a huge improvement in editing, camera shots and continuity.

Final Project: Second Shooting

    

On our second shooting we focused mainly on filming shots to replace some of the old ones. We decide to re shot the car pulling up and the actor entering the house. We manged to improve the high angle shot and focus pull. We also took some new shots which we are going to use instead of the old shots. After filming our replacement shots we went on to filming the ending of the opening sequence. We decide to film loads of short take shots which were manipulated to create match on action. The short length of each shot helps build the intensity of the last few moments leading up to the main actors death. Just before the actor dies we have a dolly shot which goes into a close up of the actors face.

Final project: First shooting

We have now started to film our opening sequence. We have chosen roles for the group. Joel will be filming and directing, Xav is the main actor and I am prop management and assistant director. We were going to film firstly in the multi storey car park but it is temporally closed due to maintenance. this means have had to reschedule filming dates which may have a deep impact. disregarding this set back we managed to film most of our other scenes in oxford. We used a few alleyways to show the character making his way to the car park.

We decided on using a few filming techniques in the parts we filmed to give the opening sequence a little more depth and character. the techniques we used were as follows:  We used a high angle to set the status and power of the character. We used a focus pull to pinpoint attention on the character. We used a close-up dolly shot (seen above) to make it obvious who the main character is. We felt that these techniques we help create the atmosphere we want. We are now in the process of editing these first few shots to see how well it works together.

Final project meeting 3

In this meeting we decided on figuring out a soundtrack to use in our opening sequence. To do this we looked on a website that had royalty free music. The website we used was Incompetech. The idea we had for a soundtrack would be similar to other films found in the same genre. An example is Little Green Bag which was in the film Reservoir Dogs (directed by Quentin Tarantino). The songs we chose are as follows:

1. Cool Rock-Kevin Macleod
2. Retrofuture clean-Kevin Macleod
3. Broken Reality-Kevin Macleod 
4. Twisted-Kevin Macleod  

We then went out to designing the title. We have changed the title from The Hit to Birdlime. This is because the title now has a background meaning instead of being generic. Birdlime is cockney slang for time done in  prison. We felt that this gave the film a bit more character and intrigue. We took some time on deciding the font, colour back ground and position of text as this will be present for a long portion of the ending of the opening sequence.   

Final project meeting 2

In our second meeting we had to reconsider and overcome flaws in our plan. We thought about using moving titles. We were unable to do this because we didn't have the software to make this happen. To overcome this we decide on  putting our titles on to objects with in the scene. This will help us to incorporate the titles without them seeming superimposed.

Oxford- Multi Storey Car Park

We also had to change the idea of our location. We changed it to multi storey car park in oxford, we also will be using a few alley ways in oxford for some scene. The reason we change from London to Oxford is for practicality reasons. As Oxford is closer and less busy it will be easier for us to film better quality shots. The fact its closer allows us to not rush through the filming stage as we can easily get to Oxford and back.

Doc Martin Editing Power Point

We had to do a presentation to show what we had found on a short clip of Doc Martin. We had to present what the Editing in the clip could show us. This meant pointing out the denotation and figure out the connotation of each editing technique. We had to link it back to Regional Identity. I had To present what the invisible editing meant.
